  • I thought you could still earn tips playing at venues?? If not then yikes! I hope it's added back soon
  • @Jakester4x4 you can? I tried at home or at the park, but the option doesn't come up..I'll have to look at it again.

  • @nervous I'm pretty sure you can but correct me of im wrong as I've been playing all of the past three installments in the sims franchise recently and I'm probably just muddled up!
  • @Jakester4x4 yeah, I only just recently got back to playing TS4 after a few months of hiatus. Maybe you can, but I'm not sure, because the sim that I'm trying this out on is a child. So maybe it's different???

  • @nervous yeah you probably can't earn tips as a child then. If a superstar type expansion is ever introduced then maybe they'll add that feature so that we can have some cool child prodigy stars lmao
  • @Jakester4x4 haha that'd be really great! I need to make the children useful somehow

  • Yea, you can earn tips.. There's no clear 'play for tips' option, but if your skill is high enough, (using guitar as example) you can choose to 'play songs' or 'play song..' and if you do that enough and if there are sims around, they'll tip you.
Same goes for the microphone. If your skill is high enough, you can compose routine on the computer, then once you've written some routines, if you choose 'perform routine..' on the microphone, sims will tip you for your comedy

  • @Jesf8312 oh, ok! Thanks for informing me! Does age matter, or is it just skill level? My child sim who plays violin is at skill level 9 right now, so I'm not sure if she's good enough.

  • @nervous Geez ikr!! I just make my kids clean the house lmao and @Jesf8312 thanks for that helpful advice!!
  • Um, you know, I'm not entirely sure.. I don't see why kids couldn't earn tips.. As far As I know for adults you just have to have the skill level to 'play songs' on the instrument and then hope the sims in the area will watch. It might be helpful to try it out at high-traffic venues like the lounge or museum/library during the day.. I never was able to get enough sims to gather at the public parks, those areas are so big, everyone is spread out
You might have to choose to 'play songs' a couple times in a row if they finish before you get a tip, but if sims start watching your performance, they should eventually tip as long as you keep playing.

  • I made a thread about this a long time ago! I'd love to see the entire orchestra in the game. I'd love to see a beautiful concert hall as well, (hopefully one similar to the one nearest to me in Rochester, Eastman Hall)???? I love to have my sims play in national orchestras etc.
    Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon
Trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba (I despise euphoniums, they sound like sad fog horns)
    Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass
    etc.

  • @Jesf8312 Yeah, since my sim is at that skill level, I think I'll try again. Thanks for the help, by the way!

  • @buydebug YES!!! Somebody gets it! I completely agree..I would love to have like a whole music themed expansion pack, really. Maybe more music-oriented traits and careers, all the instruments..It sounds like a dream!!

Just tested it with a child violin player.. Children CAN get tips, I chose the 'play concerto' option, that one lasts longer then the 'play song..' option
Glad I can help, @nervous, happy simming!
ETA: I also was a flute player in band I love meeting other band kids, that was one of the best periods of my life, when I was in band. so meeting others who loved it like I did always puts a smile on my face

  • Yeah, I play the keyboard and I really want they in TS4

  • I loved all the instruments that came with Sims Freetime. That was my favorite expansion of all time. I'd really love a Cello. I love the sound. I know its similar to a volin. But that allows for fun interactions such as debate/argue about style of instruments. That would be so fun to watch sims talk about.

  • Yes, drums to create a rock band. And more songs to sing rather than just three.
Also, I have an issue with where do Sims place their instrument after playing. Since the newest patch, they always place their instrument on the floor after playing, which will force me not to add an instrument to their inventory anymore, because they are just leaving them all around the lot, or the street, or the retail store, etc. It would be logical that if Sims took an instrument from their inventory to play, they should put it back into their inventory after finishing playing. And if they took an instrument from the floor, they should put it back on the floor after finishing playing.
  • If this gets enough feedback I think we should start a petition
