[edit: Evidently I've waited long enough on the Pokemon Minecraft train that I timed out on legality. So, whatever information IS still allowed to be responded with, I'll take it, and it'll be of help.]

If it were simple, there would just be one main Pokemon mod, some maps, some different style servers, maybe a few different modpacks with different goals in mind. But it seems like there a ton of each, and I'm not really sure what the best is to go for.

• Central mod

So. I'm obviously looking for Pokemon--a main mod adding Pokemon, gyms, battling, items, etc., to Minecraft, like Pixelmon I guess. If Pixelmon is shut down, then I'm looking for a way to still get and use it (or if that's a no-no, then I'm simply curious as to whether it can be obtained.. for research purposes only, of course). But I'm also wondering what all the Pokemon mods are that add Pokemon to Minecraft. Is there a better one these days? Are others worthy alternatives for some special reason?

• Maps

Also looking for an appropriate/nostalgic map of course. The bigger (more islands from the game/show), the better. The more realistic (either gameboy/show inspired recreations or exact recreations), the better.

• Modpack

Also looking for it to be a modpack experience, because just Pokemon alone is never enough if weighed against the alternative of also having standard good mods as well. So first of all, I'd like as many Pokemon related mods as possible (assuming they are good quality). But, also as many cool mainstream non-pokemon mods that compliment both the Pokemon mod and Pokemon map/universe. A questbook modpack would be cool, whether it was traditional (Gameboy inspired or show inspired), or if it were more generic and nonlinear (e.g. allows you to defeat gym leaders in whichever order it ends up working out, has lots of subversion quests, different stuff going on in different cities/routes, etc).
I think a master modpack for Pokemon in Minecraft would be a questbook modpack directing you to using most of the popular MC mods (tech/magic/etc) but with relation to being a trainer in the Pokemon world.. basically trying to make you end up as someone like Bill, though--storing Pokemon with tech, experimenting with Pokemon, etc. And on the way, gyms/collecting would be separate questlines and they'd just help along the way of reaching higher goals (endgame you're basically creating Mewtwo, Giovanni style). But I'm willing to sacrifice some of my dreams here for whatever is considered the best that's around.

• Servers

Also wondering about servers, and what they're like. What the main/popular ones are, what more obscure ones are, why any are good or bad, particularly modpack servers from good Pokemon modpacks, etc. I don't mind an epic singleplayer experience, especially if a map/modpack filled it with appropriate NPC's and additional content for longevity (speaking of longevity--hell, I'd do a Gregtech or TerraFirmaCraft Pokemon experience). But a multiplayer experience, if better, would be what I prefer.

Thanks for any input on any of my inquiries. I know Pokemon mods have started being a thing for quite a few years now, and so now I basically just wanna make my first time utilize all the time over the years that modders have had to work on, update, and improve Pokemon related content for Minecraft. And I had trouble on Google finding an appropriate 'recap and summary' of all things related to my curiosity, so I thought I'd devote significant time asking you guys at this subreddit before I spent all my time researching everything tediously on Google.
